The wood industry has come together to campaign for a greater use of wood products on the Olympic site, particularly in its stadiums, village and legacy housing to help the Games meet its overall sustainability targets, whilst staging a successful event.

EDM 180 supporting the Wood for Gold campaign is receiving widespread Parliamentary support. The motion tabled by Paddy Tipping MP calls for recognition of the benefits of wood as a sustainable construction material that can mitigate the effects of climate change.

Steering Group meets with ODA

The Steering Group of the Wood for Gold Campaign met with leading figures involved in the construction of the Olympic Park to discuss the use of wood in mid-November. The Steering Group is now drawing up a response to the issues raised at the meeting to be submitted before the end of 06.

Lord Dick Newby champions Wood

In his response to the Queens Speech, Lord Newby, the Lib Dems Treasury Spokesperson in the Lords highlighted the ability of the UK timber industry to help with the protection and development of forests in the developing world and suggested that the Government should support this. This Parliamentary intervention was made following on from Lord Newby attendance at the Wood for Gold launch
